Our latest project was a coverart for Bound To Survive – book one of ‘The Magic Within’ series by fantasy author Sharon Gibbs.
The project took us a little over two months to complete which was relatively quick. As usual, Isaia was in charge of the landscape and I, the characters, but we shared responsibilities drawing the books and relics about the cave. It was so much fun thinking up these things and of course, finding little niches and nooks to place them in the scene.
It was great that Sharon already knew exactly what she wanted for the cover from the get go. She also gave us quite detailed descriptions which helped us visualise the scene in our heads easily. Having said that, the elements of the image developed quite organically throughout the process of creative translation. Blame Isaia and his convoluted idea of a magical cave, ha!
We remember a funny moment after sharing one of our work-in-progress images to Sharon. It was just a cave with a few objects at the time. Her feedback was: “But where are you going to put the wizards?” The scene requires eight wizards in a circle around a sleeping boy. Eight! And we thought… oh dear, we may have made our cave a liiiiitle too tight here, oops!
But we managed to fit all eight wizards in the cover – yay! Can you spot them all? 😉
Congratulations, Sharon! Best of luck with the book – can’t wait to read it 🙂
